Our '64 Ranchero was upgraded with a 289 V8 by some prior owner.
The 2 barrel carb that came with it ran extremely rich and rather than rebuilding it, I took the chance to upgrade to a Holley 4 barrel intake and carb (the cheapest one Summit sells for Fords).
That ran well until the day I ran the gas tank completely dry and apparently sucked up a lot of dirt. Despite repeated teardowns and cleaning based on advice from Holley customer service, it won't hold an idle.
Being a cheap carb it probably isn't worth a professional rebuild, so I'm wondering what you think I should replace it with.
FYI - I cleaned and relined the gas tank using the Eastwood kit, blew the hard lines out with alternate shots of carb cleaner and compressed air. The soft lines and the fuel filter have also been replaced. The fuel pump has not been replaced, but it delivers plenty of fuel at 6 PSI, so I think it is fine. |
