Thats the stuff....I'd have never remembered that! I thought it was a staple of every teenagers make-up bag!! _________________ There is a secret in our culture – it’s not that birth is painful, it’s that women are strong. (Laura Stavoe Harm) |

I had Lipcote too, it used to strip all the skin off your lips.
I had some irridescent eye shadow powder - there was a pot of lilac powder with a smaller pot of irridescent in the top. It might have been Biba or Bibi. I've still got it upstairs somewhere.
I also had the blue mascara.
About 15 years ago I told my mum that I liked Channel No 5 and she has continued to buy me a bottle every time she has been on holiday ever since
I remember when Shaders and Toners first came out, there were some free samples in my magazine (possibly Jackie?) and as I had strawberry blonde hair I tried the rich mahogany one. I ended up with carrot coloured hair for months until it finally wore off (so much for 6-8 washes). |

Gosh, Lipcote.....evil stuff Used to sting like mad when you first put it on and you had to walk around like a goldfish for 2 or 3 minutes while it dried.
I was always disappointed with Shaders and Toners, they never really took on my hair which was naturally red back then. I do remember a friend putting a whole bottle of Sun-In on her hair though, and it went a lovely shade of orange |

Oh sun in, I used that the first time I coloured my hair aged 14! There were 3 types that I remember, I think I went for 'natural', it didn't come out too bad luckily (I didn't high light my hair though I just used it all over ). _________________ Mummy to 3 pink 2 blue.

Oh I just remembered my perfume!!! Georgio the one in the yellow and white stripy box....Still love the smell of that!
I still wear Loulou now, but then it's my name and clearly it was named after me!!!
I loved Shaders too, I had a bland sort of brown colour hair, the red shades were great on me and worked a treat! Never tried Sun-in, my friend said it was too expensive and to use lemon juice instead!!!
Oh and what about stick on nails....used to do that ALL the time! Never used to cut them down first though, so I'd always end up with talons!! Oh and after I'd painted them I'd decide on a different colour and the nails would melt under the nail varnish remover! The glue stung if you had a cut cuticle! God what with Lipcote, I must have thought that beauty came with the price of PAIN! _________________ There is a secret in our culture – it’s not that birth is painful, it’s that women are strong. I never used Sun In but I did lemon juice a few times - it worked a treat in summer. When we were in 6th form my friend was really into bands like The Smiths and had her hair shaved at the sides with the top and front all stuck up in spikes with sugar and water spray - great until it rained!
That was the Duran Duran era too where everyone had a top-heavy layered wedge and almost triangular splodges of blusher, after having the A-symetric Human League fringe and black kohl. My school photo (whole school - 3 foot long panoramic job) is a tribute to 80's bands.
Ah! those were the days. |

I remember sun in, didn't it really bugger up your hair?
I hate not being allowed that perm everybody had when I was about 13. If you didn't have it boys wouldn't go near you.
Did anyone else have the sock thing? Really long ones that were pedantically pleated around your ankles? _________________

really long over the knee socks, you would wear about 5 pairs of them and push them down. mine used to come about halfway up my legs lol.
i remember the black kohl eyeliner. mine used to run within minutes of putting it on, so much so that one of my boyfriends used to call me panda!
i had all the cheap and nasty lipsticks from the market, colour change ones, yellow, orange lol. only wore them in the house when i was messing about. i had the elctric blue mascara, but mine was all lumpy and used to leave my eye lashes looking really bitty and clumped together.
does anyone remember concealer sticks/spot stcks? was like foundation on a stick to cover up your spots? i used to use it as foundation lol cos i didnt have any!
different wacky coloured nail varnishes? i had day-glo yellow, green and loads of other colours. i used to paint my nails black and then paint silver zig-zags down each nail, sort of like lightning.
never bothered with perfume, still dont and now i dont even bother with make-up. _________________

I loved my electric blue mascara and eyeliner! Never into perfume but remember everyone stinking of Dewberry. We use to have to wear yellow ankle socks to school and would put on at least two pairs to try to achieve the thick socks pushed down look - never really worked because you had to wear the school bought ones which were really thin and crappy. Spent most of my youth in DM boots with over knee socks and tiny mini skirts with cycling shorts underneath.
