(NOT the orchestrators of the rather bizarre "Safety Dance"!)
I LIKE men wearing hats, I've decided. Proper hats, with a crown and a brim. Fedoras, trilbys etc. With a suit, of course.
There's something really quite appealing, indeed charming, about a gentleman doffing his hat to me - can't remember the last time I had a satisfactory doff.
Yep. This, ladies, marks the beginning of my one-woman campaign to raise awareness of good male headwear, and the art of good doffing. Who is with me???
(Uniform berets are good too, of course.)

The only hats DH wears are at work. I can remember he once wanted a trilby, but I suppose he didn't have the confidence to actually go for it.
I agree that hat doffing is certainly nice, and doesn't happen enough! _________________ Proud owner of: Edward Cullen, Friends, Lost, Ben and Jerrys

I got doffed by an old geezer once and it was quite nice.
A male friend of mine wears a flat cap and he is only in his 30's. I like it. It suits him.
But yeah, proper hats with the appropriate attire. I am up for it! _________________

Absolutely! Maybe not earth-moving (unless he was a really good doffer), but enough to put a smile on a girl's face for the day, I'll warrant.
Yep - more men should be encouraged to doff openly. A man with a good doffing technique will go far. As indeed would I

Well my father, brother and hubby are all hat -wearers
Mostly pork-pies and trilbys with the occasional fedora or fez
My son is following in the footsteps too although he mostly favours cowboy hats and beanies (caps with a twirly thing on top).
I've never known them to doff them though _________________

I have hat-wearing friends who are also doff-virgins. It's a growing problem I think they worry about old wives tales; if they doff too enthusiastically, it may eventually fall off - that sort of thing?
Of course, the classic myth of too much doffing affecting their eyesight; well, whilst this may be a problem in early days, it can be corrected by ensuring the hat is put back in the correct position afterwards.

Ah now - it's women like you who are contributing to this national problem!
Imagine it; an army of fragile young men, scared of being laughed at during their first doff. Keeping their hands firmly in their pockets, for fear of nervously their worst nightmare - premature doffing. That awful moment when they realise that their doff has already started, and the lady is not yet near.
So, I ask you all - next time you see a man looking a little pale and bewildered, with his hands twitching towards his head and back again - smile at him! Encourage him!
He probably just wants to doff you

(A word of caution: Okay, okay - so there is a remote possibility he is a psycho serial killer. Even more likely if his hat is black. And he has blood stains on his tie and an axe in his back pocket. A lady well-experienced in doffing will soon spot these little signs and learn to avoid his type.) |
