My mum used to let me have a little bit of rum&black on New Year's Eve when I was still at home - definitely by the age of 14 maybe a bit before.
Can't remember what my first self-purchased alcoholic drink was. Although I do remember that my first "I'm not drinking that ever again" experience was on cider. (And I haven't!)
Also I seem to remember, before that, getting drunk on whisky& orange (just the one glass iirc) while out with friends the summer before I went to uni. It was purchased by someone else though - we were so skint that my friends and I used to go to the pub and nurse a tonic water all evening (a night out on 26p - imagine!) - at that age we went to the pub for the socialising not the drinking so it wasn't a problem. |

I don't remember my first drink but do remember the first time I went to the pub and got drunk. Christmas eve, just before I turned 14(and my parents knew) I'd already had vodka and orange at home. Then had malibu and coke, then some cider.
I was a bit sick in an asda bag. _________________

Pernod and Black. Oh I felt so grown up
I then moved on to whisky and coke (so stylish) and then port and lemon.
I was never a big drinker, I only got really pissed twice and TBH I didn't like being drunk, so I didn't do it again. |

Can anyone remember what those 'girly' bottled drinks were in the 80's? They were fruit flavoured and a precursor of alcopops I suppose. The names are on the tip of my tongue but just won't come (senile already).

Mirage and Taboo If you knew how much that had been bugging me

I don't remember exactly. I do remember first time in a pub (first time drunk too) Christmas Eve 2 weeks before my 14th. I'd had V&O at home. Drank cider and malibu and cokes I think. Was a bit sick into an asda bag in my bedroom! _________________

Black beer and lemonade at home every christmas.
Babycham at family parties.
Cider at teenage parties (usually woodpecker but strongbow if you were feeling brave enough to buy it at the co-op). Snakebites if really brave!
I graduated onto Malibu and Coke (barmen used to think I was loony for asking for that combination) and then white wine when I was 18. |
