...tell us what it felt like the first time you had 7 inches??
I had two on the same day; saved up my birthday money for ages. Put 'em one on top of the other and kept them going again and again and again...

And how exciting was it when 12 inches became available |

Humphf. Show-off.
My first was a foursome (Abba and Waterloo - how COULD I?) followed by some wriggling moves to the Twist by Chubby Checker (no - NOT the first issue!!! A 1970s re-issue..)
In my defence I was a really little girl...

I had some birthday money which I took to Woollies and had a rake in their sale 7inch box.
As I've already said in another post, my 7 inches made the sound of Abba playing Money, Money, Money. I liked it a lot so decided to repeat the experience, getting Carly Simon singing Nobody Does It Better the next time.
After I got a few, I got my own 7inch machine where I used to stack them up.
Other memorable early 7 inch experiences were:-
King Rocker - Generation X
Baker Street - Gerry Rafferty
Wuthering Heights - Kate Bush
Heart of Glass - Blondie
I can't Stand the Rain - can't remember the artist
Rat Trap - Boomtown Rats (who I went to see at the Aberdeen Capitol in 1979 - that was sooooo exciting)

I had a gift voucher to spend at Woolies. They didn't have the single I wanted (drove mum and dad mad agonising over my choice) so ended up getting a David Soul single, that I didn't even really want. Totally spoiled my "first record I ever bought" memory. To this day, I wish I'd waited and gone back another day, instead of giving in to the parental pressure to "just choose something!!!!". |

'Ring my Bell' Anita Ward was the first single I bought by myself - the first with help was Paper Roses by Marie Osmond - oh the shame!
I still have all my vinyl - even though the record player is boxed up somewhere. I can still lust over the pretty pictures on the covers though That is one thing I miss - appreciating the Art of Record Covers - with all the inner sleeves stuff too..can't get all that on itunes!
