I know it's a bit early but we're planning on going to a 70's night for our works christmas do. I think it is more of a disco inferno theme than the other parts of the decade but I need to start thinking of my costume so that I have plenty of time to scour ebay etc. Looking at 70's clothes on ebay they go right through from mini skirts (more 60's really) to things that I remember more from the 80's.

I'm 5'4", size 12/14 with a few lumpy, bumpy, wobbly bits (no mini skirts or bare bellies for me) and I have shoulder length layered hair so I can do the flicked back look. I'd like to look attractive but not tarty and I don't just want to get one of the white or psychadelic catsuits that everybody else will probably be wearing. I don't want to spend too much either and don't really want to pay £30 to hire an outfit.

Options are:

Farrar Fawcett look - flicked hair, cheesecloth tight fitting shirt or tunic, white jeans, espadrilles, (a bit boring but cheap and easy).

Maxi dress/skirt and platforms a bit boring and maybe not practical for dancing in.

Halter neck dress or catsuit would be good but I'd need some support and shape up front (don't want to do saggy boobs) and strappy heels.

Bay City Rollers - cut some white jeans down and sew on tartan just below knee length, platform boots/shoes, tartan collar/pocket on shirt and tartan scarf.

Or I could go mad and get some big flares and wear a skinny fit polo neck jumper and waistcoat with platforms of course.

Any other suggestions? Anyone else been to one of these dos before? This is in a big local hotel so there will be at around 200 people there.

Howabout going as a Suzi Quattro type rock chick. Tight jeans, a shirt or T-shirt of some sort and a black biker jacket. You could wear it with platforms or baseball boots depending on how comfortable you wanted to be.
