Hi

I am starting an Access to Radiography course next month with a view to moving onto a degree in Diagnostic Radiography next year. Being a mature student of [coughs loudly] years with no recent study, I am a little worried about the level of Maths and Physics involved.

Could someone explain precisely what is covered in these two subjects so I might get to grips with them sooner rather than later?

Also, in an effort to keep up with the youthful majority of the course, can you recommend any reading? Yes, I know that there will be a reading list when I start but I would really like to get a head start in order to be able to cope with coursework without relying on my kids to help Wink

Cheers.

Hiya Will and welcome to the forums m8

I couldn't comment on the level of Maths and Physics as it was so long ago that I completed the course but I remember having to take a bridging course in Maths over the summer to learn calculus (not that you end up using at all in your job). Some of the more recently qualifieds/students might be able to help with this area.

As for reading material
Here is a link to a thread where someone brought up the same question:

good luck fella

Calculus?
Thats the one aspect of maths I have never got to grips with.

I mean why did we have to work out all those fourier (sp) transforms? What a waste of time. I didn't mind the physics or the anatomy but the maths left me for dead

I would not be that concerned m8 there is one book that covers the majority of the Physics you will need to know to become a radiographer (and a hell of a lot you will not need)
Essential Physics for Radiographers

Oh yeh great book, I had to read that to brush up on my physics b4 I taught the students. Recommended highly that one.
Its got some great analogies when explaining complex theories

Thanks for the replies. I will get the physics book recommended. Can anyone recommend one to cover the essential math or is covered under physics?

Cheers

What age are your kids? What about secretly borrowing their Maths books? I can't think of any specific books pertaining to Math in the radiography area.

- 2 weeks, 3, 5, 8 and 10 but as bright as they are, none will help me with calculus Smile If the math content is non-specific and simply general O level stuff then it's not a problem.

i'm not the brightest with maths .. but i was told the maths would be extremely hard, i found because i was worried about this i gave it a little extra and actually did better in the module specifically involving calculus Razz
