Iran: Urgent need for effective investigations into deaths in custody
Amnesty International today expressed its deep concern at the death in custody of political prisoner Valiollah Feyz Mahdavi in Gohar Dasht Prison (also known as Reja'i Shahr) near Tehran. The death in custody is the second to occur in Iranian prisons in recent weeks, after imprisoned student activist Akbar Mohammadi died in Evin Prison on 31 July 2006. Amnesty International is calling on the Iranian government to take immediate and urgent measures to ensure that all deaths in custody are investigated promptly and effectively, including that of Akbar Mohammadi and Valiollah Feyz Mahdavi.
Valiollah Feyz Mahdavi, a supporter of the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI), was reportedly arrested in 2001 and sentenced to death after an unfair trial in a Revolutionary Court after being convicted of moharebeh (enmity with God, a charge often applied to those accused of armed resistance to the state).

Iran: Mullahs' regime murders a political prisoner of PMOI
NCRI - Coinciding with the 41st anniversary of the founding of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran, in a terrible crime, the mullahs’ regime’s inhumane henchmen murdered Valliollah Feiz-Mahdavi, a PMOI member, after he was held in prison for five years. Mr. Feiz-Mahdavi, 28, was arrested in 2001 and sentenced to execution by the mullahs’ courts but due to international pressure and a widespread campaign by the Iranian Resistance his sentence was recently put on hold.
His lawyer, Mohammad Sharif, told the state-run news agency ILNA, “On Sunday, upon visiting the Sixth District Prosecutor’s Office of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran, I was told that my client’s execution sentence had not been commuted to imprisonment.” These remarks clearly reveal the regime’s decision to murder Mr. Feiz-Mahdavi.

Iraqis blame Iran for border clash, captures
BAGHDAD, Sept 8 (Reuters) - Iraqi border guards accused Iran on Friday of shelling their territory and taking six soldiers prisoner after a clash on the border northeast of Baghdad.
Iran's state news agency said on Thursday seven Iraqi security personnel were detained crossing into Iranian territory in Ilam province. An investigation was under way, IRNA said.
A senior officer in Iraq's U.S.-backed border guards service said Iranian artillery had fired on to Iraqi soil near the town of Mandali, 100 km (60 miles) from Baghdad, on Wednesday.

US Treasury blacklists Iran's Bank Saderat
Agence France Presse - The US Treasury Department announced Friday that it had blacklisted one of Iran's largest banks, Bank Saderat, from having any links with US-owned banks.
The move effectively cuts Iran's state-owned Bank Saderat off from conducting any business linked to the US financial system.
The Treasury Department said it blacklisted Saderat because of its "support for terrorism."
