Gewalt! ADL Survey in Five European Countries Finds Anti-Semitic Attitudes Rising is the headline of yet another ADL poll. One of the signs for the rise is the increasing number of people who believe that "Jews still talk too much about what happened to them in the Holocaust."
You know what? I do not blame them. I could not stand the manner Indians continue to blame British colonialism for everything that is wrong with their country.
This does not mean that Jews need not remember or, even more importantly, draw the right conclusions from that disaster. When genocidal extremists say they want to kill Jews, they must allow for the probability that they mean it.
So, Jews living in a country run by such governments, should pick up their bags and leave sooner rather than later (calling the remaining Iranian Jews!).
Sharon was right to tell French Jews to leave though this poll suggests that French attitudes towards Israel are going through a significant transformation. "Respondents in France have grown to view Israel more favorably. In 2005, Israel was viewed favorably by 26 percent of those surveyed. Today that number stands at 40 percent."
Similarly, in 2005, Israel was viewed favorably by 26 percent of those surveyed. Today that number stands at 40 percent." It should be noted that attitudes towards Jews did not improve along with attitudes towards Israel. Hence, blaming Israel for the rise in Anti-Semitism is unwarranted.
Instead, Jews do everything they can to strengthen the single state sure to provide them with a safe harbor, Israel. Non-Jews understand the special Jewish interest in Israel and Jews must stop worrying about the "dual loyalty" canard. In a world in which the number of dual citizens is growing exponentially, Jews are no longer the only ones sporting multiple identities. Next time I hope ADL will ask Europeans whether they think Muslims or Hindus have "dual loyalties."
I am not being facetious. The results of comparative poll questions are much less troubling. While more people say they sympathize with the Palestinians than the Israelis the percentages of those who do so are dwarfed by those who sympathize with neither or as I suspect, just want both of them to go away. Small wonder, if you watch TV or read newspapers you are constantly bombarded by news from the Israel and Iraq. Violence in other parts of the world receives miniscule comparative attention. Hence, much of the world ends up believing that if only Israel disappeared and the US left Iraq, peace and tranquility would reign.
Instead of constantly drawing attention to themselves, they should draw attention to other troubled places such as Sri Lanka, Thailand, Philippines, Pakistan and India. This is a good place to start. It was not until I got to India that I came to appreciate the extent of its terror problem.
Even Indians manage to ignore it. The longest Jihad is conducted against India. Moreover, that country also suffers both from Maoist (called Naxalite) terror. Only today Police shot two such terrorists. 13 Indian states suffer from Maoist terror. In one of them, Chhattisgarh, police report about 200 killings in the first four months of 2007. If that is not enough, then evidence suggests a growth of coordination between Pakistani and Bangladeshi terror groups with the Tamil Tigers and terrorist increasingly infiltrate legitimate Indian businesses. How many headlines have you read about these developments despite the fact that they involve three (India, Pakistan and China) nuclear powers.
The sooner people around the world understand that all their troubles do not emanate from Israel or "Jewish run US," the better for us all. As Andrei Markovitz demonstrates in Uncouth Nation , Europeans attributed "Jewish characteristics" to Americans before Israel came into being. Yet another new poll suggests that Israelis appreciate the US/American strategic alliance and, if anything, are tempted to over rely on it.
Be that as it may, it's time to stop crying wolf. It is time to fight it.
JUDEA & SAMARIA are clear and unquestionably JEWISH!
