Hi! I am making a COP to go under my maille, and I want to add a tunic between the maille and COP for some squishyness between the maille and plastic.

My fighting kit is Roman, so I am looking at a lightweight wool to make the tunic out of. (Thoughtprocess being it is more authentic, still breathes, and if I make it nicely, I could wear it around camp as well)

This is my first time working with wool, and from a fabric thread on the ArmourArchive, I found this:

http://www.denverfabrics.com/catalog_itemdetail.aspx?ItmID=GAB006

I am not sure if this would work for this application, nor am I sure it is the right weight.

Any input would be much appreciated.

Thanks!
Sarra

Please do not take my word as gospel, but it looks like that might work.

It claims to be good for dresses (which is essentially what you're making) and suits, so it probably isn't too thick.

At 8$ a yard you can probably find somebody to take it off your hands for you if it doesn't work out.

It's looking like a good choice to me too. Not that I have a lot of experience buying fabric without feeling it up first. But the suiting/dress type wools I have felt up generally seem good for this, and gabardine is recommended as an appropriate wool by Charlotte on ArmourArchive, who I trust.

If at all possible, order a sample. You may have to order 1/8 of a yard, since I don't think that site offers swatches. I've ordered a fair amount of fabric online, but sometimes the colors and textures look very different in person from the picture online. When you buy a sample, see what it looks like both in daylight and under artificial light. Some colors will vary in appearance depending on the light.
