Hmmmm....
I'm sure they may be serious about the sport. The marketing dept: not so much. Reminded of League of Their Own. |

I'm completely conflicted. I like that it gives an opportunity for small women to get paid to play a sport, that from the interviews, they really love, take seriously, and could never be successful at in a larger (literally) pool.
But it also pisses me off. |

Didn't you see the size of some of those women, the miami team has a 6+ Foot amazon of a receiver, and another team has a tall gal for a linebacker that can tackle a horse.
Give the pro women's league a few more seasons, it will turn around, or someone will come along and start a better leauge for the serious ones to join. THat's what happened to women's pro basketball! |

On one hand it's great that it's an avenue for women who want to play football professionally on the other hand...
Lingerie football? Come. On. The team names? Seriously?
Philadelphia Passion
Chicago Bliss
Miami Caliente
New York Majesty
Tampa Breeze
Dallas Desire
Denver Dream
Los Angeles Temptation
San Diego Seduction

If they'll make sure that the players are all the best female football players that try out, and don't give preference to the ones with the largest breasts, I'm all for it.
I suspect they may do what tennis does, and let the best play, but focus all the media attention on the babes... |

Y'all do know that there is a women's professional football league, right?
http://www.iwflsports.com/
Serious women, with a love for football, and a love for athletics. Granted, they have a smaller pool to pull from, because guys are brought up loving football, and gals are brought up to love cheer leading.
There is also a pro league for women in Europe. I have been the local team's (Nuremburg) parties, and these are some serious women.
One of the the better known teams is the New England Storm
http://www.newenglandstorm.com/
There is no reason for women to have to include the word "Lingerie" to a legitimate sports league. Those women looked serious, but the league is a joke.
I have boy plumbing, and I still find it a little insulting. Seeing the women trying out is even worse. Some of those women looked like real, solid athletes, and they are auditioning for a more bounce to the ounce job. I saw a black woman in that video that I wouldn't cross for two hundred bucks and five days off from work to recover.
The truth is, I would probably watch a you tube video of this "league", but the inclusion of the world "lingerie" would keep me from viewing any of these women as real athletes.
This "league" is bullshit.
Sorry to be so blunt.

I actually played in IWFL league for a couple of years. It was a lot of fun and we took our football serious!

Actually, I had to throw this in.
The New England Storm is getting ready to hold their spring try outs. Other teams hold try outs in different parts of the year. The Dallas Diamonds, for instance, hold their try outs in the fall.
It appears that cardio, toughness and aggression are the things that they are looking for. Virtually any really serious SCA woman fighter would have a chance, and they don't seem to have the "30 and out" rule for newbies.
If you live in the Boston area, the try outs are on May 8th.
I will try to find try out information for any TheGirlsClub woman that wants to try out.
You can play pro ball. You don't have to run around in a G string to do it. It ain't easy, and it ain't free.

I played rugby (Helgaball) with a cabbage in a viking dress at Estrella this week. Girls are animals. I think I'll stick to the heavy list. _________________ It's not the most powerful animal that survives. It's the most efficient. -Georges St-Pierre

| Reviving this thread because I read an article in the Washington Post yesterday about the Lingerie Football League, specifically the Baltimore Charm team. Apparently a number of the women were serious athletes in college, playing soccer or lacrosse. But their "uniforms" look ridiculous and not at all protective. I imagine so much bare skin is just inviting bruises and abrasions, which are going to make the women look less "pretty" and thus defeat the purpose of the marketing. |

I played pro football. Women are savages.
They also owe me a thousand bucks.
