My friend Emer and I have decided we are going to pay to fly some fighters in to teach us better body mechanics for power generation. She's tiny (I don't know how tall but definitely under 5', and I'm just kinesthetically retarded.

We know about Duke Paul. WHO ELSE should we approach for help?

Read Peter Ralston, Cheng Hsin, subtitled something like the Art of Effortless Power -- he is a martial artist, but lots in the book translates to SCA stick fighting -- this book totally changed the way I generate power.

Also, you guys really should come to Sport of Kings in An tir -- really, really.

Sir Rauokinn, would you like an exciting all-expenses paid trip to Kentucky?

Smile

I will buy this book later today.

When is it? I'm pretty much obligated every weekend until May...

Sport of Kings is August 18 - 21. Portland, Or. Amazing teachers. If you come out, we'll find tents and bedding, etc. . . for you.

I'm always happy to teach, but I can recommend some guys that I think would be more beneficial than me.

I've met Ariel a few times. When my first daughter was born she told me she'd watch her while I fought sometime but I never took her up on it. I don't know that I've ever seen her do formal teaching but she must be doing something right because one of her squires was recently knighted. Smile

I bought the book too. Must make that Amazon Prime worth it.

you should have Sir Gemini out. He does the modern medieval stuff on youtube. He is a great teacher. And he's married to Sir Mari, who is also a fantastic teacher.

If you're coming to Pennsic, please look me up.

I camp with Vair & Ermine on Battle Road, just off the main battlefield.

http://delaflamme.org if you need pictures to find me.

If this invitation is addressed to me and my squire sister Emer, we are grateful for your instruction and would take you up on it. I will work out a time with you as Pennsic approaches. Thank you!

If it wasn't directed towards us, since we now know where you camp, we will show up and try to talk you into it. Smile

It's an open invite. Individuals or groups! Groups are more efficient at getting the basics taught, but individuals get more, well, individual attention.

Not sure yet whether I'll be there for peace week as well as war week, but I hope so, and that would be better for this instruction. Less busy, and I just found out I'm unit commander for South/central Atlantia this year.

The Scholum Artis Bellum Curriculum was based on decades of study and practice growing out of the long and glorious history reaching back to Duke Akbar ibn Murad of the House Hakkim (East Kingdom) and the "school" of fighting he and his students (e.g., Sir Strykar Geirharldsson, Duke Sir Siegfried Von Halstern, Duke Michael of Bedford, Master Feral Von Halstern) and their students have subsequently evolved. A pretty large number of female fighters have been trained in this school (including, for example, Mistress Cunian and Sir Sichel Von Halstern).

The focus in the '101' level of the syllabus we put together is almost exclusively on proper biomechanical and basic offense/defense/maneuver technique.

Certainly not "the One True Way" (we tell everyone to steal what works and leave what don't)... but perhaps the various approaches provided might prove helpful to some. It certainly seems to have been an effective approach to teaching the basic techniques, at least in our classes.
