I try to play the game on the field for Tournaments. But, I really slip up when the helm comes off.

I try to play a male Turk on the field, Haroun al-Tayyib. And dress as one, off the field for courts.

I had a previous personna of a Byzantine Merchant, but I don't play her anymore, but my friends know me by Amaris.

The guys pick on me from time to time. They would like to see her, again.
I just don't like wearing dresses to a port-a-potty, or in the mud. Pants are eaiser.

Although here's a cute one... I was the only woman at a large demo-tournamant and the herald who was doing the introductions didn't announce me as "Elanor" I was "Ell-nar" I guess he figure some guy would get really mad at him for pronouncing his name like a girlly name... little did he guess... dah dah dunnnn... I was a girl!
Oh well...
As for being two people- not really- but I do have to be very conscious of why I'm going to an event- if it's for A&S or I'm autocrating or as ret that's fine, but if I'm going to fight “seriously” I need to be careful not to get too involved in the other activities. I can multi task fairly well in most of life, but I find to fight well I need to focus on it- like going to bed early the night before, and having any projects done well ahead of the event so I'm not having that in the back of my mind.

I am a lady AND a fighter at the same time and I don't feel the need to separate them from each other. I actually feel that it is harmful to female fighters as a whole for us to have to do so. I think it's important that women have the choice to act as they please but not be forced to give up their femininity in order to be a fighter at all. Thankfully, the SCA pretty much allows for that. I wouldn't want to play in a group where I had to masquerade as a man in order to take part in certain activities.

yeah I admit I have multiple persona disorder.

I just dont want to fight in a dress. And women in the middle ages in central europe wore dresses.
Also yeah, pants are more comfy, so I run around dressed like a man (or boy) most of the time, especially when I do service or work.

But there are the times when all the other girls dress up, for court or feast or whatever. Then my girly instinct awakes and says "ME TOO!" and I grab a dress, take off my cap and brush and brade my hair and all that stuff. But this is only for 10 percent of my sca time. People in my kingdom start getting it. Most of the time i wanna be adressed LORD Robyn (my king asked when he announced my AoA (cool king) and I picked the title LORD. Unfortunately this was one of the few times I wore a dress... it ended to be a veeery funny scene), but they start understanding trousers=Lord. dress=Lady.

I like my friends. They are so understanding about my disorder....

I don't think so, but I've always been a tomboy and prefer pants to skirts (changing my mind about that after seeing pictures of myself in garb, though.) Atlantia requires an attempt to look period on the field, so I'm going to make some men's garb to fight in (difficult to fight in a skirt... so I'm going to make a shorter skirt (waffenrock)). But as I said on some board or other, I'm not making a new persona - heck, I don't change my personality at all for my first persona. It will just be up to other people to pretend I'm a guy on the field if they have any problem with a woman being out there, for historical accuracy's sake.

SuGyong has a point, though. Nobody ever offers me flowers!

I have never attempted to reconcile my female gender or female persona with my fighting. We have enough historical research on female fighters that I am sure it could be done. But I just don't care to and have no desire to do so for others. That's why I play SCA and not living history.

So I am a female with a female name. Although in real life or the SCA I'm mostly butch and I don't really have traits that would be considered traditionally feminine. I guess the boobs are pretty much the only noticeably girly thing about me and that's not obvious when I am in armor. I fight in armor with hose and braies. Recently for SCA, I have been dressing almost exclusively in male late 14th century clothing. I like it because it's comfortable (like shorts with knee socks) and takes up much less room in the suitcase (no bulky skirts).

It's really odd for a butch lesbian to get hit on by a guy. I take it as a compliment. I am pretty darn cute. Very Happy

I agree with Jesmond that we have plenty of historical examples of women fighting. I'll bet anyone here any amount of money that Maria of Pozzuoli never wore a dress. I'll bet not all women in central Europe wore dresses all the time.

Hell, I think there were more women like me in history than anyone will ever acknowledge.
