Have you ever had a moment were afterwards your get frustrated with yourself because you know you could have done it better.

I did.

This summer I was part of a single sword tourny at a large event hosted by Dagorhir. I'm very proad of my single sword skill and was hoping to at least make it to the second round.

They get all the people set up and start pairing us off, first thing that pisses me off, they are going from oppiste sides of the line and making pairs, they get to me skip the guy I should have fought and paired me with another female. Okay I shrug it off and meet up with her. We take our stances touch swords and begin, this is were I start my mistake. I move in to close the distence between us and she backs off right away, I do it again and again she backs off. So instead of being smart and just holding my stance and wait for her to come to me I chase her. Mind you I'm wearing my full set of armor except my helmet, because I can't fight without it on for medical reasons, she's got nothing on armor wise. So I literaly spend 5 minutes in 90 degree temps in the middle of a treeless field chasing this girl around the field. Finaly I get smart and hold my ground, but now we're the only ones fighting and we have three heralds looking at us telling us we need to finish the fight so they can move on the tourny.

Second mistake, instead of saying "Fine then tell her to fight me." I make a stupid move and push in trying to cut off her back peddle and get in striking distence, of course leaving myself open. She fresher and truthfully faster then me lunges in and takes a killing hit on me.

Frustrated I leave the field, dead in the first round, mad at myself for not listening to my head and just doing the smart thing.

Has anyone else had moments like these fighting?

Every time I fight someone new. I lose every single time. I'm not quite sure why, but it is something I need to work on when I am able to fight again. It sucks when you know that you had the skill and knowledge to do better.

I notice that too, though I think it's the fact that we are not used to them and there movements, new people can be very unpredictal. Which can mess with a trained mind that is watching for the subtle hints that other trained people can give when fighting.
