I had my helm and gauntlets at work because some of the dudes I work with have been hearing me go on and on about them forever. I had to bring them to the academy tonight so one of the Captains could see. We've talked martial arts and stuff because he's been doing fighting for a long time and the whole armored fighting thing was of interest. So I take the helm and gauntlets out and after a minute of looking at them he says:
"You're not worried about these getting scratched are you?"
I reply with "No of course not. They're going to get scratched up anyway."
He says 'good' with an enthusiastic look on his face then goes out to the hallway where all the guys are lined up to come into the classroom. He finds one guy he likes to pick on a bit and tries to get him to put the helm on so he can wear the gauntlet and punch him but I have a tiny head. All the little head guys are looking around like they're hoping to not get picked. So I volunteer because it's my damn helm and hell, it can't be any worse than getting hit by El Super Duke with a stick.
We go down to the end of the hallway after I get the helm on and I brace a bit for impact, not wanting to fall over. He's trying to figure out how
he ought to hit me and I tell him whatever, just do it. So he hauls off and cranks me in the head with the gauntlet on. Which was pretty interesting in itself since I've never been punched before, let alone in the helmet. I staggered a bit but looked up and he's got this huge grin on his face and some concern and then gives me a huge hug. He goes 'You're the coolest woman ever!' and behind me all the guys are saying stuff like 'Did that just really happen?' 'Holy shit that was crazy!'.
So I proved to be the biggest badass of the night. Not really that big a deal to anyone who's used to getting whacked with a rattan club all the time but it impressed the guys anyway. _________________ It's not the most powerful animal that survives. It's the most efficient. -Georges St-Pierre

| My husband loves to tell the story about the time I broke my leg in a tournament, finished the fight and then walked off the field on the broken leg. They all think I am either right up there with Ripley from Alien or that I am categorically insane. |

Well, I'm starting to suspect I have a stress fracture from running, and with my jacked up shoulder and no insurance I can't keep up with these guys in PT. So now they realize I'm not a wuss I hope.
A friend of mine once gave me a ton of crap because she told me her sister had broken her leg. I asked how and she told me it was sliding into a base playing softball. My second question 'Was she safe?' I guess she found to be a little awful because it wasn't whether or not she was okay.
Anyway finishing a tourney with a broken leg is pretty badass. ^_^ _________________ It's not the most powerful animal that survives. It's the most efficient. -Georges St-Pierre
