I've had some folk ask me about the arming coat I made, so here is a crappy in the mirror picture. I took the picture when it was almost done. I just had to finish the bottom and the sleeves at this point.

It's made from 2 layers of linen, with leather tabs to reinforce the spots where my armor is laced to it. I patterned it from a fitted 14th century dress pattern that was made for me. All I did was shorten it and take it in around the waist where it would normally start to flare out. I also changed the neck lone but other than that it works great.

Aw, really nice arming jack! Do you have any padding between the layers, or is it merely a double-layered linen jack?

I myself have made me a fustian pourpoint with arming points for leg armour. It is basically a sleeveless leather-reinforced vest. I wear a light gambeson over it.

For those who are interested, Reconstructing History has patterns for both an arming jack and gambeson - see http://www.reconstructinghistory.com/products/rh006-15th-century-burgundian-arming-coat-1 and http://www.reconstructinghistory.com/products/rh023-14th-century-jupon-of-the-black-prince-2 The cuttings are, unfortunately, for a man, so we have to adjust them for the bust and waist.

I live in the desert. It gets reaaaally hot here. Fighter practice temperatures right now average 105 degrees. So it's only 2 layers of linen. I pad my armor instead where I need it.

I tried pointing my legs to an arming coat but I hated it and stuck with a c belt instead.
