It's about that time of year again, and I am trying to get my butt in gear to do that which needs to be done.
I have a lovely pile of linen remnants to be turned into garments. I need more 'guy' clothes, since most of my decent stuff is girl stuff. The kids grow apace. But we are not hurting for clothes.
The daughter needs an armor upgrade. Her stuff was not up to Div. 3 level punishment last year, and as of November she'll be old enough to do heavy in Atlantia. Major work there.
Our little round tent had a rough time last year with the storms, and is too small. I am going to take it apart, add a panel in the middle, making it a two pole oval, treat for water-resistance and generally overhaul.
Everyone is in bad shape for shoes this year. *sigh* I do have leather, which is a good thing.
The laminated together panels on the viking chest suffered in the weather last year, so that needs patching up and a new lid.
Begins to look like a way-too-busy couple months.
How 'bout you? |

Well, I'm not going to Pennsic but I do have a butt load of projects.
Translation of "De Benedictione Novi Militis" for a friend being knghted in May
Putting together the other half of my Zweihammer gauntlet kit
Unpacking and setting up my new apartment (I'm going with a tiki lounge motif)
Doing more research on armor and weapons of 12th cent Outremer
Make a 12th century scabbard and sword belt for my old sword
Make a 15th century scabbard and sword belt for my Shrewsbury sword
Make a rondel dagger and scabbard for Lyonel
Make a cultellus and scabbard for myself
Getting my soft kit in order
Getting back into my studies
Working on my leather armoring skills
etc
etc

Darn. Everyone is supposed to appear at Pennsic so that we can all fight each other. Didn't you get the memo?
(I wish someone would get busy with that transporter technology. Buncha slackers. ) |

I'm working on it. But it will take some time.
The fact is that there is no suitable command in phpBB for "transport a person and all their war gear from point A to point C".
I am thinking the command must be a Html command.
I have found the correct commands for point A to point C, but only if there is no point B inbetween, unless it is expressed in terms of the square root of negative one.
If I don't have a suitable script built by Sunday the 17th, I will ask my wife to step in.
I really am not slacking. This one is a little tougher than the last one.

I will get to Pennsic one day! I have an SCA friend in PA, who I met on the Iron Rose list 9 years and many ups & downs ago. We'll be hooking up there some day. I live on the West coast of BC, so it's a long ways away.
When the time comes, I will probably rent a Panther Pavilion - I've heard they bring them to Cooper's and set them up for their renters.
Regardless of my current Pennsic issues, plans include finishing my armor this month, making banners and a brazier over the next couple of months. That's not a whole lot, but I can't seem to get my butt in gear these days. Too much personal stuff that needs attention first, I guess.

I've still got armor to work on, but that depends on other people's schedules. I don't think I'll be authorized by Pennsic.
Need to make a basic gambeson so I can give back the loaner. I'll worry about a cohesive period kit later.
I would like to make at least one more Landsknecht dress in linen (I just finished one), and some stockings. (I have two wool bodices but only wear them on cool rainy days, which we have not had many of lately.)
Couple of light linen T-tunics so maybe I'll stop sitting around camp sweating in shorts and halter top (the heat really gets to me).
Another barett hat or two to go with my new dresses. |

| For the omg, it is too hot to wear anything days I swear by linen 'pillowcase' tunics - ie one rectangle 27" x 72", fold in half, make a neck hole, sew up a bit of the sides leaving armholes and flaps below the hips, embroider or add trim so it doesn't look as plain as all that, add a pair of those lightweight linen pants, (They were really popular mundanely a few years back and are pretty easy to find in the thrift stores.), et voila. Hey at least it's better than shorts and a halter top. |

My Pensic plans got crushed this year after looking at the cost of a plane ticket. YIKES! Had my work cooperated, I would have been flying in really cheap but damn budget cuts and I'm not going.
Instead I'm going to go to a few more things closer. I'm hoping to hit the war up in you neck of the woods Doireann and probably West/AnTir since a group from here is going and that makes it so much cheaper. Of course if I won the lottery between now and Pensic I'll be there!

Ratslayer, you must be going to the Clinton War! I've never been to that one, even though it's a "must do" for a lot of people here. It's really cold at night and really hot during the day, from what I've been told. I had my honeymoon up in that area and I just loved it.
One day, I'll get to the An Tir/ West War too - I've heard that's a lot of fun. There's very little far-flung travel for me until my son gets a bit older! Though I am going to An Tir's July Coronation this year at the request of my Pelican (Protege road trip!).

Yah- I'm hoping she's actually thinking of the new-fangled Avacal Tir Righ War at the end of June...

Oh! Of course! I wish it weren't so far away.... But, that's another one I'll put on my "one day" list!

Yeah, I mean to make some more Celty garb (great excuse to buy some pretty tablet-woven trim) but I tend not to wear sleeveless tops often because not all my tattoos are period, I hate for my bra to show, and I feel self-conscious when I don't have the chance to shave! Also I dislike wearing sunblock and would rather cover the more sensitive (paler) parts with fabric.
I do have some of those pants, and they are still for sale cheap from Chadwick's I like being able to make my clothes perform double duty for work and SCA.
I'm also going to make a few plain light cotton, maybe cheap muslin underskirts, a friend says she soaks her underskirt in cool water and it helps keep her cool. Fine for hot dry days, I don't know if I'll appreciate the damp feeling on hot muggy days.
Couple of things I forgot to put on my list:
A new more period leather pouch with pouchlettes (need to get the leather and rings),
A couple of cotton skirts (made one yesterday, have fabric for 3 more),
A couple of long-sleeve linen chemises with trim (have fabric for 1 or 2, will probably hand-finish these while I'm there)
A couple of short-sleeve chemises (have fabric for 2 or 3)
I've been building this list for years and am finally getting around to doing all this stuff
Aww, I wish you all could afford to go to Pennsic, too! |

| Yeah, transportation costs are truly lousy at this point. I am really lucky, since we are close enough that it is actually cheaper for us to go to Pennsic than it is for us to commute for a week. |
