|
|
hey everyone.
im a youth fighter who will soon (in like 3 months) be moved up to the youth armoured combat, which, for people who might not have heard yet, is a rattan division for 16 and 17 year olds in the east kingdom, kind of to make the transition from youth boffer to heavy list easier. i was wondering what people reccomend with taht in mind for me to work on. i fight lefty, with a round sheild and single sword the majority of the time. i think my defense is pretty good, but i have trouble seeing openings, and also a hard time in general killing people. my mind knows what it wants to do, but my body wont respond. also, im up to learning other cool shots that might be of an advantage when im fighting mainly guys who are bigger and stronger than i am.
my blows usullay also get called glancing, anyone have ideas about taht?
and just general things that would help in the long run (i plan to keep fighting )
thank you for all the help,
Sarre |

commit to your blows
use your whole body to throw a shot
use your feet to create openings
conserve energy; don't just throw shots to be throwing
fight your fight, not theirs
work the angles; don't stand in front of your opponent
work on an offside to the body or inside leg
pell work in addition to slow work
don't worry about how big or strong your opponent is
It will take some time and practice for your body and mind to get in sync. _________________ Martel le Hardi

Footwork. As in using your feet to get to the side of an opponent or moving in a random pattern to throw off their timing or to create or decrease range. _________________ Martel le Hardi

Martel has the right of it.
Any one of those things on her list could be a rewarding three months work.
But the footwork stuff is my pet project right now. SCA people tend to move very badly.

I think footwork can take you from an okay midlevel fighter to a serious threat.
I agree with freiman. MOst SCA folk move poorly. When you see someone with good footwork, it really stands out. _________________ Martel le Hardi

Do y'all have any good foot work sourses? _________________ Give it just one more shot. And then one more. Think about the sweat and time you've committed already. You've come this far, you'd be unfair to yourself if you quit without a fight. |

Dancing is great for footwork. Especially dances that have a specific movement pattern like salsa, merengue or even two-stepping. This develops timing and rhythm.
The base movement of capoeira is called the ginga (pronounced jinga). Simply doing it will help develop footwork patterns. It will also increase the strength and endurance necessary for good footwork.
One thing to remember from Million Dollar Baby is to go left, push right, to go right, push left.
The foot closest to the direction you want to go moves first.
Work on semi circles and angles, rather than simple front and back movement. _________________ Martel le Hardi

We focus very heavily on proper technique at the Scholum Artis Bellum (the practice Cunian attends). You can find alot of the material at our wiki website, where Cunian and Gunnar help train newcomers and I help generate alot of the material along with Cunian's Knight Sir Strykar and many others.

Hope it may prove of some use.
