Has anyone actually seen the movie The Census Taker's music was made for? It goes under a different title for the VHS release and is on sale on Amazon for pretty cheap. Would it be against the rules for me to obtain this tape, transfer it to digital, and upload it for the Residents community? The tape is out of print, after all, and there is absolutely no rip of it floating around on the internet that I can find.
(I would upload it to a torrent hosting site, since that would be most easy. I could probably get away with youtube too, since it's such an obscure film.)

| I remember one Ralph catalogue that informed us all that the movie would be released on video since no one wanted to distribute it - "yeah, it probably is that bad".

| I think it airs on TV. I swear I saw it while going through channels on MGM HD or something.

I actually enjoyed the movie when I saw it. It definitely had its share of problems (the "homage" to "Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf" was just a rip-off; the writers had recently learned a new word: verisimilitude; the actors were poor-man's versions of other more popular actors; etc) but it had a certain charm.
The funniest thing about it was that when I saw it it aired on a cable network called Black Starz, which features films of African American actors. But the only one in this film is Garrett Morris, and he's killed in the first half hour.
I also think that it aired as "The Census Taker," not with the new title, but I gave away the tape I made of it years ago.

| I saw it on TV years ago. The Rz music fits in pretty weird, almost laughably so. They put on Duck Stab (if I recall) and start dancing to it like it was a Phil Collins tune, or some other cheesy 80's top 40 artist. Good stuff, I'd watch it again.

| just watched it on netflix. very hard to sit through at first, but then got somewhat entertaining, weird people playing group footsie, drinking bloody marys with blood in them, all to old Rez tunes! It got artistic at a couple of spots I think. I'd buy it...

I am watching this right now - thanks slimsumeg for mentioning the netflix. It is pretty intriguing and worth watching. I've been looking at stuff online while watching it. There's one really awkward part where the "rebellious" youths hack an atm in an unbelievable fashion. Other than that, it's pretty entertaining overall.
I think as long as you go into it not expecting comedy or drama or whatever the wikipedia entry says it has, you'll probably enjoy it.
Everyone sucks - I think that's the point of the movie.
