Hi Everyone,

Great to find a forum like this, Firstly I went on yasmin about 2years ago when they switched me from Dianette, They said that yasmin was much safer??
I immediatly felt different with it and grandually got worse not realising it was connected to Yasmin...
When I look back I was extremely depressed every day, which caused major relationship problems, I had 5 water infections in one year and constantly had thrush.
I was referrred to hospital re;infections and they found I only had one kidney, The dr gave me blood test and said it was working fine and carry on as I was...
My moods were getting worse ever suicidal at times..
I had itchy legs constantly and really Dry skin..
Still did I not realise this could be related to Yazmin...
At xmas i did something really silly and i took double tablets on two consequetive days as i forgot to take it and I was worried about getting pregnant.
I started to experience bad anixity and my eyes became very dry and dark circles appeared under my eyes, I got extremely worried and went bak to the dr he gave me eye gel and said it was prob the heating at home.
I finished the pill 8 weeks ago after researching dry eyes etc and realised it had to be yasmin.
Since then the depression has almost disappeared, Yeast infection has gone..
The only thing I'm still suffering with is dry eyes sometimes I get a pain aswell but they are improving, did anyone else have dry eyes?
And how long after stopping did it go? or at all?

Im really mad with my dr after finding out I only had one kidney and he kept me on it, as Ive read they have a duirectic in them which can cause dehydration.. I truly believe the reasons my eyes went bad was because I was dehydrating Sad I will never take BC again

Glad to hear most your side effects have cleared. I only made the decision to come off yasmin a week ago so im patiently waiting for the depression to fade away!
Not heard of the dry eyes being a side effect but maybe you should talk to your doctor. You might be able to get some hydrating drops
How long did it take for you to feel less depressed after stopping yasmin?

To be honest I had one whole month off Yasmin and gradually I started to feel more positive, I would get so so fed up to the point where I didn't want to socialise with anyone, or even go out.
I make an effort now to get myself out and about and socialise with old friends etc, I really do feel so much better in my self I took my last tablet on the 22nd Dec 12, So its coming up to two months and apparently it takes at least 3 months for hormones to leave your system.. then another 3 months for your own hormones to stabilise..

Yes ive been to the dr and he keeps giving me gel drops which are working well thank you.

What was the reason you came off? was it just the low moods?

Hi Peppa,

I am glad you stopped and that your depression is really fading away! That was something I was suffering with alot too. As for the dry eyes... as the pill is a diuretic this effects all mucus membranes including your eyes.

I realize (just now) that much of my previous cavities must have been due to the low saliva in my mouth!

It will take time for you to fully get back on track. Try to drink water and not use too many chemicals. Look at what is in your eye drops too.

HUGS!

Hi Diamond Dee,

I am glad to hear you just quit.
Hang in there it will turn and you will start to come out of your shell too. You are not alone in this journey! Most women have been through the depression from the pill. Not that it makes it anymore normal or ok that it is the case.. but at least you don't have to feel alone.

Try to eat healthy, holistic and organic, drink plenty of water, exercise and do things you enjoy!

Much warming hugs to you on your journey back to health!

Hi

thanks for the reply, my eyes are actually improving by the day, I no longer use the eye drops, just the odd day when they feel tight and dry again.

Since coming off Yasmin, I have been drinking at least 2litre of water a day, alongside a good multi vitamin plus cod liver oil tablet, and drinking green tea this is through reading other peoples advice on the forum and it has been a god send!.

I feel 90% better and cannot believe the transformation in myself, I think I have had less symptoms of withdrawal due to this regeime daily, I have avoided caffeine as this brings the migranes back on.

I cannot believe this pill is still being precribed and I feel it is a danger to many, I truely believe if i had stayed on it for any longer I would have been seriously ill...

I never knew the symptoms/side effects of this pill and never got advised to drink plenty quit smoking...
And i hardly ever drank water and smoked 10-15 per day!! its disgusting how the nurses and dr's do not advise correctly,

Just want to say a big thank u to forums like this its literally a life saver!! I have for the 1st time today felt panicky and worried like i used to when I was suffering from depression and I came and read some of the fantastic comments on here and it made me feel better that im not alone Smile

Hi Peppa.

I am glad to hear that you are improving!!!
One day at a time!

Yeah I agree... but doctors and health professionals do not get the drug education from research, school, or any other nonpartisan organization, but from the drug companies and their good looking sales people! They are not looking to cover the side effects and possibilities, in fact they may not even know they exists due to very small samplings during trials... they only want to sell!! And that is the sad truth about why it is still out there.

Thankfully yasmin and yas manufacturer Bayer are currently in a lawsuit but just because those two will get kicked off the market they are making others to take their place like beyaz for example.

I can't believe you quit smoking! That is very strong of you! Good JOB! Smile

Sending you a hug!

Just a quick update, been off yasmin approx 12 weeks.. WOW i'm so glad I took the decision to come off it

No longer have the yeast infections still not had one since Dec and that pretty impressive to say I was never without one!!

My moods are alot better, I can have a conversation without forgetting simple words and I want to go out and experience new things.. I can just deal with things better, although I'm still anxity from time to time and still feel very paranoid about my health but i'm hoping that passes.

I visited my Dr last week and explained Iwas getting pains/numbness in my left leg and heart palpatations which really scared me at 4am in the morning when it woke me..

When I explained that Id stopped taking Yasmin and all the side effects i'd experienced and that i feel its related she looked at me as though I'd grown 3 heads!!!! I said I would like a test to check my hormones as she couldn't give me anything to treat facial hair... And also the fact its completly messed with my hormonal system..

She was very reluctant to provide one and made me feel like a complete hypercondriact!!

In the end she sent me to the nurse for blood tests and I get the results friday so it will be interesting to see how my hormones are looking!!!

she was completly unhelpful about my issues and said as for the facial hair you will have to use wax, Lazer Treatment etc and no medication will help..

I will keep this post updated, i hope all that read it will take some comfort knowing you are not alone and these side effects will pass with time
Smile

Peppa - those weird looks from doctors and nurses are beyond words. I had my share of them looking at me as if I was mentally wrong with how I was feeling then. I have given up and going for Chinese traditional methods (herbs), acupuncture and cupping instead. Good luck and I wish you speedy recovery.

Peppa.
I am glad you are feeling better. And you seem to have had an experience we all get when we explain everything for the doctors.

Many of us have found alternative. Just like Leni, I am also doing holistic care mostly kinesiology.

Sending you Hugs!
Be strong.

Hi,

I have been on Yasmin since it was first came to the market. I suffer from pre-mature menopause when I was only 25 years of age and I had massive hair loss. Doctors did so many tests but none of them can tell me why so they put me on the HRT since. The hair loss appeared to slow down so I decided to stay on the treatment. Now I am 47 and I have been having a lot of those symptoms that you have mentioned, e.g. anxiety, twinges on my legs, pressure behind my eyes, skull aching and have the crawling feeling from time to time. My excessive hair loss problem started to re-surface again a year ago and I had so many tests done and the doctors just won't link the problem to Yasmin. They even said if I come off Yasmin, my situation will only get worse. Now, I have so little hair on the top my head, I really can't see how Yasmin can help me anymore. 2 weeks ago I went to see a Chinese doctor and he gave me some herbs to take. Last night I finally decided to stop taking Yasmin and I think I will just continue to take the herbal treatment and advice from the Chinese doctor. I can tell you that I am scare but I really run out of options. I read the postings from other survivors and I also have vitamin D deficiency, so now I increase my dose to 3 x 1000 iu per day. Please pray for me because I find it extremely depressing to go out when I can feel that people can looking at my hair.

Regards,
Amy
