Birth control pills containing a directic cause too much potassium loss from body so taking potassium after may help fatigue and other symtpoms:

Interesting articles thanks Smile
Just one thing Yasmin and Yaz contain a potassium sparing diaretic which means it can actually cause HIGH potassium levels (hyperkalemia). Potassium sparing diaretics are usually given along side normal diaretics that deplete potassium. Smile

I tested with low potassium while I was on Yasmin. Where did this 'potassium sparing' theory come from? Ive never seen it written anywhere except on here.

Google the ingredients of yasmin - the drosperinone is a potassium sparing diaretic:

http://www.webmd.com/drugs/drug-94472-Estradiol-Drospirenone+Oral.aspx?drugid=94472&drugname=Estradiol-Drospirenone+Oral&dmid=1582&dmtitle=DROSPIRENONE/POTASSIUM%20SPARING%20DIURETICS&intrtype=DRUG&pagenumber=9

http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/582386_4

and the yasmin site itself!
http://www.yaz-us.com/

The Bristish National Formulary also lists drosperinone as a Potassium Sparing Diaretic I can't link it as you need a password to view it online but it comes up in the preview if you google drosperinone potassium sparing.

When you get off of yasmin, do you have alot of extra potassium to get rid of out of your body?

lwhiticar-
In my personal opinion, no. I had low potassium after I came off. I think it's dependent on the person really. Everyone's body is so different.

Thanks for the links! I guess you're right!!

I tested as low potassium while I was on Yasmin and once treated for it I found my heart palpitations went away. I definitely think that it's different for everyone and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if I am deficient in it still as my palpitations are back and I already supplement magnesium, b's and iron Sad

Lucia is very right (if there's such a thing! Very Happy). Yasmin and Yaz contain potassium sparing diuretics. What some don't understand is the meaning of that. It doesn't mean that Yasmin or Yaz automatically provides your body potassium. It means that it spares the potassium you get through your different sources, especially through your food intake. I've been trying to convey this message to others, but unfortunately unsuccessfully. If you do some thinking you can see why the result would be different for each individual. If I'm inclined to eat foods high in potassium, I am likely to develop health issues whilst on Yasmin. If, on the other hand, I tend to eat foods that are very poor sources of potassium or if my body has a high demand for potassium, Yasmin would be like a blessing to me and may "cure" (a dependent event) my related symptoms. This also means that it would be a terrible experience for me when I get off it. You get the drift.
